The typical Vesuvius preserve with Piennolo D.O.P. tomatoes is part of our exclusive selection. All the products we have chosen are an emblem of quality and genuineness. The "Del Piennolo Del Vesuvio PDO" Pomodorino is one of the oldest and most ancient products of Campania agriculture. The typical area of production and conservation of the tomato coincides with the entire extension of the Vesuvius volcanic complex, including its slopes almost to sea level. It benefits from the volcanic soil and the generous sun: it is said that its "burning" color is coming from the work of the volcano since according to legend, its roots feed on the lava itself of Vesuvius. This tomato with a hard skin and firm and compact pulp is rich in vitamin A and C, which have been known for some time the anticancer effects, of minerals such as calcium, phosphorus and potassium, essential for the disease and the heart, and of Lycopene , which is exerted in the antioxidant organism, stimulating the production of enzymes that block the carcinogenic action of free radicals. This is also called "del Piennolo", because the traditional preservation technique requires the formation of "Piennoli", that is pendulums: whole clusters, between September and August, arranged on a string of hemp tied in a circle, to compose a single large bunch, stored in a dry and ventilated place. This system favors a slow maturation and the possibility of having "fresh red gold" until spring. GMO, Dyes, Preservatives, and Sweeteners; Suggestions for use: The "Piennolo Del Vesuvio PDO" Pomodorino has a characteristic sweet taste with a sour aftertaste, due to the particular concentration of sugars and minerals. It is perfect for a fresh basil leaf, both to enrich fish or meat preparations.
